PRESANCTIFIED

On Friday Evening of the Second Week 2021

From the Triodion.

Sticheron Idiomelon. Mode 4.

Bring my soul out of prison to give thanks to Your name, O Lord. [SAAS]

Now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation. O Lord, in the abundance of your mercy, visit my soul, and remove the heavy burden of my iniquities, as the only One who loves humanity. [SD]

The righteous shall wait for me, until You reward me. [SAAS]

Now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation. O Lord, in the abundance of your mercy, visit my soul, and remove the heavy burden of my iniquities, as the only One who loves humanity. [SD]

For the Martyrs.

Mode pl. 4.

Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; O Lord, hear my voice. [SAAS]

Martyrs of the Lord, you sanctify every locality, and you heal every infirmity. And now we pray you to intercede that our souls be delivered from the snares of the enemy. [SD]

Mode pl. 4.

Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. [SAAS]

Martyrs of the Lord, we pray you earnestly entreat our God, and ask for an abundance of tender mercy for our souls, and the forgiveness of our many sins. [SD]

Mode pl. 4.

If You, O Lord, should mark transgression, O Lord, who would stand? For there is forgiveness with You. [SAAS]

Your martyr Saints, O Lord, having become oblivious to life's endeavors * even disdaining the tormenting tortures all for the life which is to come, * came to be regarded its inheritors. * Therefore they exult with the angelic hosts. * Bestow upon Your people great mercy, at the fervent appeals of these Your Saints. [SD]

Mode pl. 4.

Because of Your law, O Lord, I waited for You; my soul waited for Your word. My soul hopes in the Lord. [SAAS]

If there be virtue and if there be praise, it is fitting for the Martyrs; for they bowed their necks to the broadsword for You who bowed the heavens and descended. They spilled their blood for You who emptied yourself and took the form of a servant; and they let themselves be humbled, even unto death, in imitation of Your poverty. So, according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, through their prayers, O God, have mercy on us. [SD]

Mode 4. To a brave one.

From the morning watch until night; from the morning watch until night, let Israel hope in the Lord. [SAAS]

You withstood the brutality * of the Jews and their insolence, * even as a woman, with manly frame of mind, * O godly-minded one, for you looked ahead to the permanent * future blessings that remain * for all ages unshakable; * which you did obtain * when from earth you passed over to celestial bridal chambers and the chorus * that never ceases, O glorious Saint. [SD]

For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption; and He shall redeem Israel from all his transgressions.

[SD]

Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; praise Him, all you peoples. [SAAS]

You were granted to see the light * of the kingdom's magnificence * and delightful handsomeness of your Bridegroom Christ, * being adorned as you were with marks * of your mighty martyrdom; * and you worthily arrived * at the wellspring of all things good, * O all-blessed one. * Now you freely partake of the divine and otherworldly joy and gladness * and of the glory that never dies. [SD]

For His mercy rules over us; and the truth of the Lord endures forever. [SAAS]

Neither feminine frailty, * the condition of servitude, * hunger, nor mistreatment could stop or hinder you * from imitating the martyr saints * in their steadfast fortitude; * for with willingness of soul * you endured torture valiantly, * O all-glorious Saint. * Then you made it to heavenly bride-chambers, and you stand near your Creator,* being adorned with a crown of grace. [SD]

Glory. For the Dead.

Mode pl. 4.

I grieve and I lament when I think about death, and when I see the beauty, which God made for us in His image, lying formless in the grave, without glory and unsightly. Amazing! What is this mystery that happened to us? How were we given over to decay and coupled with death? Indeed, as it is written, this is all by the command of God, who grants repose to those who have passed away. [SD]

Both now. Mode pl. 4.

The First Theotokion of the Mode.

The King of heaven, out of love for mankind, appeared on earth and lived among men. He is one Son, twofold in nature, but not in hypostasis, for He took on flesh from a pure Virgin, and came forth from her with that which He had assumed. Therefore we confess Christ our God, truly proclaiming that He is one and the same, perfect God and perfect man. Intently pray to Him, O unwedded Mother, to have mercy on our souls. [SD]

Gladsome light of holy glory of the holy, blessed, heavenly, immortal Father, O Jesus Christ: arriving at the hour of sunset and having seen the evening light, we praise the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, God. It is worthy for You to be praised at all times with happy voices, O Son of God and Giver of life; * and therefore the world glorifies You.

Gn 5:32, 6:1-8

And Noah was five hundred years old, and he begot Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Now it came to pass that men began to exist in great numbers on the earth, and daughters were born to them. So when the sons of God saw the daughters of men were beautiful, they took wives for themselves of all they chose. Then the Lord God said, “My Spirit shall not remain with these people forever, for they are flesh. So their days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” Now there were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men of old, men of renown. Then the Lord God saw man’s wickedness, that it was great in the earth, and every intent of the thoughts within his heart was only evil continually. So God was grieved that He had made man on the earth, and He thought this over. Then God said, “I will blot out man whom I created from the face of the earth, from man to cattle, and from the creeping things to the birds of heaven, for I am grieved I made them.” But Noah found grace in the presence of the Lord God. Pr 6:24-35, 7:1-2

My son, guard the laws of your father, and do not depart from the rules of your mother. But fasten them to your soul continually and wear them as a collar upon your neck. When you walk about, bring along this commandment and let it be with you; and as you sleep, let it guard you, that when you arise, it may speak to you. For a commandment of law is a lamp and a light, and the way of life is reproof and instruction, that you may keep yourself from a married woman and from the slanderous tongue of a strange woman. Do not let the desire of beauty conquer you; neither be caught by her eyes, nor captivated by her eyelids; for the value of a prostitute is only one loaf, and such a woman hunts for the precious souls of men. Shall anyone bind fire to his bosom and his garments not burn? Or will anyone walk about on coals of fire and not burn his feet? Likewise is the one who goes in to a married woman; he shall not be guiltless, nor any who touch her. It is not surprising if anyone who steals is caught, for he steals that he may fill his hungry soul; but if he is caught, he will repay sevenfold, and by giving all his goods, he shall deliver himself. But the adulterer through his lack of discernment obtains the destruction of his soul; he bears both pain and dishonor, and his disgrace will not be wiped away forever. For the anger of her husband is full of jealousy; he will not spare in the day of judgment; he will not take any ransom in exchange for his hatred, nor will he be reconciled by many gifts. My son, guard my words, and hide my commandments within yourself; my son, honor the Lord, and you shall be strong, and fear none other but Him. [SAAS]
