In Your kingdom. Remember us, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [RSV]

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. [RSV]

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. [RSV]

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. [RSV]

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV]

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [RSV]

Troparia.

From Octoechos - - -

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

Adam fell by a tree, and he was evicted from Paradise. * By the tree of the Cross the Robber gained entrance to Paradise. * The former, by tasting fruit, disobeyed his Maker's commandment not to eat. * The latter was crucified with Him, whom though hidden he confessed to be God. * Remember us as well in Your kingdom, O Savior. [SD]

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

When the Hosts of heaven saw * You, O Master, stretched out upon the Cross, * at a loss they were appalled, * O forbearing Lord, and beside themselves. * The earth was shaking back and forth, * and the lovely glow was extinguished of the stars. * While You were unjustly judged, * Adam the condemned man was being justified, * O Lover of man, * and he extolled Your benevolence. [SD]

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

You crushed the head of the foe * by Your crucifixion on Calvary. * And by dying on a tree, * those who from the fruit of the tree were dead * You quickened, O sovereign Lord, * and You established them as the citizens * of the Garden of Paradise, * O Christ our God, and they with unceasing hymns * extol You and cry aloud: * Remember us in Your kingdom. [SD]

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

For the Martyrs.

Having taken up the Cross * as your armor, thus you went forth to meet * and do battle with the foes, * O martyrs, with a valiant attitude. * And making an end of them, * you received the crown of incorruptibility. * And glory was given you * and the brilliant splendor from God, O most-divine * saints deserving of praise. * Therefore do we call you blest. [SD]

Glory.

You were nailed upon the Cross * so as manifestly to demonstrate * Your compassion for us, Lord. * And You bore the whippings and ridicule * the reed and the vinegar, * You who with the Father and Spirit coexist, * O Savior, enduring all * intending to rescue from everlasting fire * those who cry out to You: * Remember us in Your kingdom. [SD]

Both now. Stavrotheotokion.

He whom nothing can contain * without trouble dwelt in your holy womb, * O immaculate and pure * Theotokos, Mother of Christ our God. * And dying upon the Cross, * on the world He poured out eternal life. * O Lady, do fervently * entreat Him to mortify our carnal mind, * as the Lover of man, * and also to save our souls. [SD]

The Epistle

For the Apostles.

Prokeimenon. Mode pl. 4. Psalm 18.

Their proclamation went forth into all the earth. [SAAS]

Verse: The heavens declare the glory of God. [SAAS]

The reading is from the Acts of the Apostles.

Acts 15:35-41

In those days, Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also. And after some days Paul said to Barnabas, "Come, let us return and visit the brethren in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are." And Barnabas wanted to take with them John called Mark. But Paul thought best not to take with them one who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia, and had not gone with them to the work. And there arose a sharp contention, so that they separated from each other; Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord. And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches. [RSV]

The Gospel

Friday of the 6th Week of Matthew

The reading is from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.

Mt. 13:44-54

The Lord said this parable, "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net which was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind; when it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into vessels but threw away the bad. So it will be at the close of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous, and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. Have you understood all this?" They said to him, "Yes." And he said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old." And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, and coming to his own country he taught them in their synagogue. [RSV]

Hymn to the Theotokos.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos. [GOA]

Communion Hymn. Psalm 73.

You worked salvation in the midst of the earth, O Christ our God. Alleluia. [SAAS]

Hymn after Holy Communion.

Mode 2.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us. [GOA]
