The Epistle

Saturday After Christmas

Prokeimenon. Mode 4. Psalm 44.

I will remember your name from generation to generation. [SAAS]

Verse: Listen, O daughter, behold and incline your ear, and forget your people and your father's house. [SAAS]

1 Tim. 6:11-17

Timothy, my son, aim at righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. In the presence of God who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ; and this will be made manifest at the proper time by the blessed and only Sovereign, and King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen. [RSV]

Alleluia. Mode 2. Psalm 131.

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

Verse 1: Arise, O Lord, into Your rest, You and the ark of Your holiness. [SAAS]

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

Verse 2: The righteous cried, and the Lord heard them. [SAAS]

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

The Gospel

Saturday After Christmas

Mt. 12:15-21

At that time, many followed Jesus, and he healed them all, and ordered them not to make him known. This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: "Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles. He will not wrangle or cry aloud, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets; he will not break a bruised reed or quench a smoldering wick, till he brings justice to victory; and in his name will the Gentiles hope." [RSV]

Hymn to the Theotokos.

Ode ix. Heirmos.

Mode 1.

O my soul, magnify the ever-virgin Maid who from the curse has redeemed us. [SD]

Easier for us is from fear to love silence, * free of any peril as it is, O Virgin; * whereas to weave stirring hymns out of longing * in earnest, is difficult. Therefore, O Mother, * give us strength to match our volition, we pray you. [SD]

Communion Hymn. Psalm 110.

The Lord sent redemption to His people. Alleluia. [SAAS]

Hymn after Holy Communion.

Instead of "We have seen."

Mode 4.

Your nativity, O Christ our God, has caused the light of knowledge to rise upon the world. For therein the worshippers of the stars were by a star instructed to worship You, the Sun of Righteousness, and to know You as Orient from on high. Glory to You, O Lord. [SD]
