Ode vi. Mode 1. The monster. (NM)

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

The truly dread assembly uttered a strange and new confounding of the natures of Christ, confounding the double energies into an energy one and monstrous; which the fullness of the holy orthodox regions rejected. [EL]

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

The truly dread assembly uttered a strange and new confounding of the natures of Christ, confounding the double energies into an energy one and monstrous; which the fullness of the holy orthodox regions rejected. [EL]

Glory.

That it might escape the dread Nestorios, who wickedly introduced a duality of sons, the assembly of error slid from the mire into the pit, vainly teaching a confusion of wills and natures; but it was refuted by the godlike Fathers. [EL]

Both now.

All-blameless Lady, you have become the door of the divine ray and source of the unsetting light; for all the fullness of the Godhead dwelt ineffably in your womb; you reward with his natural energy and radiance those who crave. [EL]

The Epistle

For the Fathers.

Prokeimenon. Mode pl. 4. Psalm 31.

Be glad in the Lord and rejoice greatly, O righteous ones. [SAAS]

Verse: Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven. [SAAS]

Tit. 3:8-15

Titus, my son, the saying is sure. I desire you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to apply themselves to good deeds; these are excellent and profitable to men. But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels over the law, for they are unprofitable and futile. As for a man who is factious, after admonishing him once or twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is perverted and sinful; he is self-condemned. When I send Artemas or Tychicos to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. And let our people learn to apply themselves to good deeds, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not to be unfruitful. All who are with me send greeting to you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen. [RSV]

Alleluia. Mode 4. Psalm 43.

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

Verse 1: O God, we heard with our ears. [SAAS]

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

Verse 2: For You saved us from those who afflict us. [SAAS]

Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

The Gospel

For the Fathers.

Mt. 5:14-19

The Lord said to his disciples, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." [RSV]

Hymn to the Theotokos.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos. [GOA]

Communion Hymn. Psalm 148.

Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the highest. Alleluia. [SAAS]

Hymn after Holy Communion.

Mode 2.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us. [GOA]

THE DISMISSAL

May He Who rose from the dead, Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, and the Holy Fathers of the Fourth Ecumenical Council, whose memory we are observing; and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, for He is good and loves mankind.
